Burglars are still on the run

Members of the EMPD Tracing Unit were met with flying bullets while trying to stop a BMW sedan without number plates, on October 9.

“They spotted the car around midday, in Daveyton, and tried to stop it, but its occupants opened fire on the police,” said EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.

A high speed chase ensued and ended in Pedi Street, where the two occupants abandoned the vehicle and took off on foot.

They are still at large.

Kgasago said the BMW sedan was recovered together with some of the goods that were stolen in a burglary at a house in Northmead, earlier.

“It emerged that the perpetrators were in two vehicles when they broke into a house in Kana Street, Northmead, where television sets, music systems and other household goods were stolen,” said Kgasago.

He added that although the Metro Police patrol vehicle incurred one bullet hole in its right fender, the officers came out of the ordeal unscathed.

A case was opened at the Benoni Police Station and both the vehicle and the recovered goods were identified by the owner.

In-depth investigations are underway to locate and apprehend the perpetrators of this crime.
