Death of Farrarmere resident is a ‘total shock’

Loved ones and colleagues of Asher Singer (66) will remember him as a fun, hardworking man.

Singer died in a his Farrarmere home on November 2, after a fire is believed to have broke out in the main bedroom of the Brooke Street house.

His biological daughter, Ayala Singer Proshan, who spoke from her resident country of Israel, said she is “devastated” by the news of her father’s death.

She said she had a close relationship with her father.

Asher visited his daughter in Israel three months ago to meet his new-born grandson, Netta Singer Proshan.

“He was a very, very special person and father,” said Ayala.

She said she and her brother, Uri Singer, will not recover from losing their dad.

Uri is expected to arrive in South Africa from Israel in the next few days.

Ayala won’t be able to make the trip due the recent birth of her child.

The directors of CT Systems, the company Asher founded in 1986, are in “total shock” following the loss of their colleague and friend.

“It is a great shock in the way he passed away,” said Vitor Patao, who has known Asher for 18 years.

“We can’t come to terms with what happened to our partner and it’s difficult to cope because of the manner in which he died.”

A customer of CT Systems, Frikkie Quirk, who has known Asher since the late 1980s, described the founder as a man who invested his whole life in the company.

An inquest docket has been opened at the Benoni Police Station.

The cause of the fire is still not known.
