One killed, three injured in Cloverdene accident

A head-on collision on Cloverdene Road left one person dead and three others with serious injuries during the early hours of Saturday morning (November 8).

ER24’s Werner Vermaak said paramedics arrived on the scene in Cloverdene Road and found both vehicles lying on their sides.

Four people were found trapped in one of the vehicles.

“Paramedics managed to rapidly free two women from the wreckage and rescue workers from the Ekurhuleni fire department had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to gain access to the other two trapped occupants in the vehicle,” said Vermaak.

Vermaak said that while paramedics and rescuers were struggling to gain access, one of the occupants succumbed to his injuries.

The other occupant was later freed from the wreckage and airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg for medical treatment.

“Unfortunately there was nothing that paramedics could do more for the other man in the vehicle and he was declared dead on the scene,” said Vermaak.

The driver of the second vehicle sustained only minor injuries.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet known and the incident was handed over to the local authorities for investigation.

On November 7, four people were injured in two separate accidents when the vehicles they were travelling in collided with street poles.
