Two suspected illegal miners arrested in Daveyton

Charges were also brought against them for contravention of the immigration act.

Two suspected illegal miners, aged 18 and 28, were arrested in Daveyton on October 28.

“While patrolling the Chris Hani informal settlement, EMPD Intervention Unit officers came across the men engaged in illegal mining activities,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa.

“They attempted to evade arrest but were apprehended.”

They were found with four pendukas, three electric motors, a gas cylinder and battery, and were taken to the Daveyton Police Station where they are facing charges of illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act.
