Suspected ATM fraudsters arrested

Three men were arrested on November 6, for possession of a stolen vehicle and fraud.

The SAPS, Metro Police and APB security were part of the arrest, after a concerned person informed the Community Policing Forum (CPF) of suspicious activity on Miles Sharp Street.

The three suspects were followed from the BP garage on Miles Sharp Street, to the Terrace Shopping Centre, where they were allegedly fiddling with an ATM.

They then made their way to a Crystal Park shopping centre, on Totius Road.

“The suspects were monitored by the police to see what their next move would be,” said Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Martiz.

“They were fiddling at the FNB ATM and it is believed that they were jamming it.

“As soon as the suspects left the parking area, the SAPS, Metro Police and APB security stopped them.”

The occupants of the vehicle were searched and police found a device used to remove bank cards from ATMs.

The vehicle in which the men were travelling was found to have been stolen on December 18, 2013, in Benoni.

The three suspects, aged 29, were arrested and detained at the Crystal Park SAPS; they will appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.

Crystal Park SAPS’s Capt Glen Whitford said the public must come forward with information if they have been victims of ATM fraud or if they were robbed at the ATMs in Miles Sharp Street, Rynfield Terrace Shopping Centre or Crystal Park Spar.

They must please provide the dates and their case numbers.

Whitford can be contacted on 011 968 9056 or 082 822 7608.
