Man arrested shortly after Crystal Park house robbery

A man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a house robbery and car hijacking at a house in Crystal Park, this morning (November 19).

Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz said two men on foot approached a woman in her driveway at her Heilbron Road home.

“As she stopped to open her gate the men appeared out of nowhere; both armed with pistols,” said Maritz.

The woman was forced into her home where she was held up, with her husband who was already in the abode.

The suspects allegedly made off in the victim’s car with two plasma TVs, a laptop, groceries, speakers and an amplifier.

Maritz said the victims of the crime immediately alerted police and a lookout for the vehicle was given.

An EMPD tracing unit spotted the speeding vehicle that skipped two red robots.

The EMPD chased the suspects and eventually apprehended one of them at an intersection just after Modderbee Prison, towards Springs.

The other man managed to escape.

The goods reported missing from the Crystal Park home were found in the woman’s car.

Police have opened a case of hijacking and house robbery and might add a charge of possession of suspected stolen items.
