Juniors serve up good sportsmanship

Some of the region’s best junior tennis players battled it out over the past four weekends, on the courts of the Gauteng East Tennis Headquarters, at the Benoni Lake.

This, the Gauteng East Closed Tournament, forms part of the primary and high school trials for 2015, as well as trials for selection to the Gauteng East Provincial squad.

The doubles and singles finals were held on Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16, for tennis players from 10 to 18 years old.

According to Ken Smith, chairman of Gauteng East Tennis, the tournament was successful with entries up by 20 per cent from last year.

“The tennis played was of a high standard and the sportsmanship on display was top-drawer,” he said.

Gauteng East Tennis will host the Gauteng East Junior Open Tournament from December 10 to 18 and are taking entries for the tournament, for players between 10 and 18 years old.
