According to Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni spokesperson, the tender for the pruning is still being finalised.
“A request for quotations for the pruning of the trees in Western Extension was advertised.
“The quotation process has closed and the division responsible is waiting for a date to adjudicate the quotations in order to appoint a contractor,” he said.
He added that the issue will be resolved when the procurement process is completed and a contractor is appointed.
And, according to Clr Mary Goby, the trees are long overdue to be pruned.
In October, Goby hoped that the trees would be pruned by the end of October or mid-November.
Western Extension residents have been frustrated by the delays.
Goby said the metro made excuses that it did not have enough money for the 2013/2014 financial year to allocate funds for the service.
“The DA has ensured that the department has made provision within its 2014/15 financial year,” she added.
