Benoni Court sentences Alberton drug kingpin to 30 years in prison

The Benoni Magistrates Court sentenced Nigerian drug lord Philip Nsofor, aka the Lion of Alberton, to 30 years imprisonment on December 12.

All of Nsofor’s crimes, which include racketeering and drug dealing, took place in the Alberton area and his case was brought to Benoni because the Hawks felt he simply had too many connections in SAPS for the case to be heard in Alberton.

The Alberton Record reported: “Nsofor’s (an illegal Nigerian immigrant) drug circle was infiltrated and close tabs where kept on him and his operations for more than six years, securing a solid case and guilty convictions on charges of racketeering (the first individual in SA to be charged with racketeering), participation in an enterprise, managing an enterprise, dealing in drugs and contradiction of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.”
