Sinomsbenzi celebrates one year of successful business empowerment
November 20 marked the one year anniversary of the launch of Sinomsbenzi, an organisation designed to relieve poverty.
It does this by empowering micro-entrepreneurs through business and supporting non-governmental organisations (NGOs), fighting to save people left vulnerable by poverty.
John Carhart, chairman of Sinomsebenzi, said it is astounding what the community can do in such a short amount of time.
“We have seen such fantastic progress this year, with community members getting involved with micro-entrepreneurs through mentoring, as well as supporting local NGOs with food and funding.”
Sinomsebenzi has supported Paradigm Shift, a training programme which enables micro-entrepreneurs to grow their businesses with the help of practical business training and mentor support, basic essential bookkeeping, which expounds on accounting, and a micro MBA course which takes micro-entrepreneurs into great depth and is also supported through a mentorship programme.
“Over 150 micro-entrepreneurs have been through the free-to-the-user business training courses,” said Cathcart.
“Most of these entrepreneurs support at least three other people and we have seen a 62 per cent increase in business revenue and a 34 per cent increase in saving for the first time,” said Carhart.
Sinomsebenzi’s plans for 2015 include the support of six NGOs, as well as supporting further training of entrepreneurs and unemployed people.
“By providing people with skills we are giving them the opportunity to create their own future, dream big dreams and contribute to the growth and development of South Africa,” added Carhart.
