According to Lieut Nomsa Sekele, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, the suspect was visiting her boyfriend, who is awaiting trial at the prison, and brought him a pair of shoes with a steel saw blade hidden in the sole.
“The prison warders were searching everything brought for inmates by their visitors when they found the weapon,” said Sekele.
The suspect told police that her boyfriend instructed her to bring the shoes and put the blade in sole.
“She was immediately arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station and she appeared before the Benoni Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 7,” Sekele added.
