Business to close following community dissatisfaction

A business owner has apologised to the community of Mackenzie Park, after coming under fire from residents who claimed his operations were causing a disturbance in the suburb.

Actonville Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Selvan Naidoo, the owner of 36 Flamingo Avenue, told the City Times, on Friday, that he has taken it upon himself to close down his business on January 23 – three days after opening it.

“I feel that it is not acceptable,” said Naidoo.

“I did not expect the clientele to be so big.

“I want to apologise to the community at large if I caused distress or upset them.”

Several residents of MacKenzie Park told the City Times that the business, which handles surplus pension fund and insurance money claims, caused a headache.

“The only thing that bothers us is that there are so many taxis and cars that they have to park on my pavement,” said Sandy Kelly, a resident of the suburb.

“I cannot get out of my driveway and they don’t want to move.

“The drone of people talking early in the mornings is also causing a disturbance.”

Ward 73’s Clr Samuel Ngobese said Naidoo is operating illegally, as he does not have business rights for the property.

He added that the City Planning Department will visit the business today (January 23), to conduct a further inspection, and may end up giving Naidoo notice.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said complaints about the premises have been forwarded to the by-law unit.

Naidoo said he will relocate his operation elsewhere.
