Postal delivery conducted every second day
Benoni residents may still have a while to wait before receiving their post swiftly, as the South African Post Office (Sapo) is still suffering the effects of last year's industrial action.

“On the East Rand, street delivery is done every second day, because a number of employees in that area were dismissed as a result of their actions during the strike,” said Sapo communications officer Johan Kruger.
“The SA Post Office is finalising plans to redeploy delivery employees from other areas on the East Rand, so that daily mail deliveries can be resumed.”
Several readers of the Benoni City Times Facebook page said they are still suffering the effects of the postal service strike and are receiving post from last year.
These were some of the comments left on Facebook:
Patricia Pollitt said: “Not much lately, but did get some stuff from August/September.”
Vickie Daehetihw said: “Let’s not talk about the numerous parcels from the UK I am waiting for since October, but I won’t see them; any excuse to steal stuff from people’s parcels. Whenever there is a strike I never get my parcels. My first batch of post after Christmas was still from August.”
Nicole Schiava said: “Jatniel… Slow, but some post. And in Benoni AH on Sunday!”
Nikknet More said: “In Wattville it is delivered on weekends and they have been doing so for three weeks.”
The Benoni and Farrarmere post offices were re-opened in November, after vandals trashed the facilities during the strike.
