Dagga found at two high schools

Six packets of dagga were found during a school search at Petit High School and Crystal Park High School on Tuesday, January 20.

Five of the packets were found at Petit High School, along with cigarettes and a small knife.

Petit High School headmistress Marina Nortier said her school is working to eradicate illegal substances.

“We absolutely welcome these searches, and follow up and assist learners with rehabilitation and disciplinary processes,” said Nortier.

She said the pupil who was found in possession of dagga will be sent with a referral letter to the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca).

One packet of dagga was discovered in a bathroom at Crystal Park High School.

The school’s principal, Frikkie Smith, praised the police’s work.

“I am very happy that police do patrols at the schools,” said Smith.

“I am glad the police and the schools can work together to get rid of drugs in schools.”

The search was conducted by Crystal Park SAPS, the K-9 unit, EMPD and community patrollers.

Crystal Park Police Station’s Sgt Lerato Mopeli said the youth were educated on the dangers of drug abuse.

She said more unannounced searches will be conducted throughout the year.
