Rodrigues shines with 10 distinctions
Erin Rodrigues finished as the top Ashton International College pupil after scooping 10 distinctions in the 2014 Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
The 17-year-old obtained distinctions in her Advanced (A) levels for physics, chemistry and mathematics; her Advanced Subsidiary (AS) levels for accounting, mathematics, physics and chemistry.
She also aced history, biology and Afrikaans in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) levels, which she wrote two years ago.
The Westdene resident said she managed her impressive results through hard work and is happy with her achievement.
“It hasn’t sunk in yet. I just tried my best, I wasn’t necessarily trying to be the best,” said Rodrigues.
She told the City Times she was disappointed at only having scored 72 per cent for English.
Rodrigues said she was an average performing student when she was in Ashton Junior College, only having achieved two to three distinctions in her Grade Seven year.
She changed her study method when she started high school by revising each day’s work she was taught at school.
She will build on her love for maths this year, and is awaiting confirmation to study actuarial sciences at the University of Cape Town.
