Charlotte is headed for the stars

Charlotte Dera is a triple treat -- she is a singer, dancer and actor.

And, because of her talents, she was awarded a New York Film Academy Teen Scholarship in October, last year.

“This scholarship will have a great impact on my career, because it will open a number doors for me,” said Charlotte.

Her one-month New York scholarship will give her the chance to learn extensively about the acting industry.

She was discovered by the Anua Rising Star Talent Showcase, in Northmead, during their auditions in Kempton Park, in March.

The 17-year-old, who lives in Johannesburg, decided to take the leap of faith and expose herself to the arts world.

“I decided to take part in the auditions because I have always wanted to be an internationally recognised artist and I this as an opportunity,” said Charlotte.

As part of the Arts Rising Stars 2015 group, she has also been invited to attend a Arts Expo in Orlando, Florida, in June.

“I look forward to broadening my perspectives about the world and I truly look forward to being signed by international agents,” she added.

In Florida, she will be given the opportunity to audition for various American agents, and if they like what she has to offer she may be signed.

She started singing when she was 11 years old and hopes her talents will allow her to touch people’s lives.

Charlotte draws most her inspiration for acting from American actor Tyler Perry, because of the message his movies often carry.

“He is truly someone to admire, because his movies always highlight a certain message, which is often connected to Christianity,” she said.

”But, not only is he an actor, he is also a director.”
