According to Sgt Constance Moalusi, Daveyton SAPS spokesperson, Mlondi murdered 21-year-old Rifilwe Tshesane on May 10, last year.
“The deceased went to visit her boyfriend in Bhele Street, Daveyton, and, upon arrival at the boyfriend’s home, she found the accused, instead of her boyfriend, in the backroom where he stayed,” she said.
She waited along with Mlondi who was there watching pornographic movies on his laptop.
“He then made a pass at her and wanted to have sexual intercourse with her,” Moalusi added.
”The accused somehow used a plastic bag to cover Tshesane’s head and she suffocated to death.
”He hid the body behind the bed in the room.”
Mlondi then went around the neighbourhood, asking for a large plastic bag, and one of the community members alerted the landlord.
“The landlord went into the room to investigate why he would need a large plastic bag, found the young woman’s body and police were alerted to the murder, which lead to Mlondi’s arrest,” Moalusi said.
Det W/O Godfrey Magopane was commended for his work on the case, despite witnesses being intimidated to not testify against Mlondi.
“Witness protection measures were implemented to ensure the safety of witnesses and statements were presented before court as evidence,” added Moalusi.
