Leadership academy briefs Rotarians
Chris Bradford, co-founder of the African Leadership Academy (ALA), spoke about the academy at a breakfast meeting, organised by the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, on Wednesday, March 25.
Bradford and Fred Swaniker founded the institution in 2005, in the hope of producing future leaders of Africa.
“One leader in Africa will make a bigger impact than a leader anywhere else, because of mostly weak institutions in Africa,” said Bradford.
The institution aims to identify potential leaders between the ages of 17 and 19, to let them practice and learn on campus, and allow them the opportunity to become great leaders in Africa, by connecting them with potential investors.
So far, the academy has 700 young, potential leaders in the programme and 100 employees.
ALA hopes to transform the African continent by means of educating exceptional youth, with the specific focus on entrepreneurship and leadership.
Several weeks ago, Bradford was unable to attend the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora awards evening, where he was due to receive the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, the highest honour the club offers, for his involvement in the founding and managing of ALA.
