Sixty-three years on and still in love
Jack and Isabel Williamson’s love for each other has grown stronger with time, even after 63 years of marriage.
The Brentwood Park residents said they have enjoyed their years together because they worked in a number of places around the world and have enjoyed the adventures together.
On their wedding anniversary, on March 1, they celebrated their union with a family lunch.
The couple was born and raised in England; Jack (86) was born in Newcastle and grew up in Newsham, Blyth, while Isabel (85) was born in Bedlington and grew up in Bedside, Blyth.
They married at the Hortons Anglican Church, in Blyth.
When Jack received a contract to work at the Sasol Oil Refinery, in 1969, the family moved with him to South Africa.
Jack has also worked as a building contractor, and Isabel worked as a office typist for many years.
The two have raised four children, Marilyn, Eileen, Suzanne and John.
Over the years they have seen six grandchildren being born and welcomed three great-grandchildren to their family.
Jack and Isabel describe their 63 years of marriage as ”fantastic”, because they both admire and love particular aspects of each other’s personality.
“Isabel is a fantastic woman and I have enjoyed our time together, she always cooks my favourite food and looks after me,” said Jack.
“In the first 15 years of our marriage Jack worked away a lot, but he was always a good provider; I have loved him all my life and he is very special to me,” said Isabel.
Their advice to married couples, is to know the person to whom you are married.
“Marry someone who you feel is your soul mate; you just know when it is right.
“Work hard at keeping things true, stay friends and don’t let arguments or silly fights get in the way,” said Jack and Isabel.
