Awe-inspiring choir music
The Cenestra Male Choir inspired awe and entertained the audience at the first concert of its homecoming tour.
The concert and CD launch were held at the Northfield Methodist Church, in Airfield, on Friday, March 27, to mark the choir’s return from the United Kingdom and the start of its South African tour.
The supporting act of the concert was provided by the St Dunstan’s College Choir, which gave a soothing performance, before Cenestra appeared.
The Cenestra Male Choir, conducted by Themba Madlopha, performed a number of songs, including Morte Criste and Ar Hyd y Nos, a Welsh folk song.
Cenestra stands for Central East Rand, as all the members reside in the area, including the townships of Tsakane, Wattville, Daveyton and KwaThema.
The choir was established in 1992 and has gained popularity over the years.
It started with 85 members, but has been distilled to 50.
The show, which was broadcast live by Soweto TV, included guest performances by soprano Esther Mashiane and tenor Lucky Sibande.
