Lakefield woman kidnapped, tied up and left in car boot

A 38-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of her landlord, who was found tied up in the boot of her car in Actonville last night (April 10).

The 55-year-old victim, a Lakefield resident, was discovered with her hands and feet tied together with a cord, in her BMW, outside the Actonville Hostel, at around 8pm.

She also had a cloth in her month.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said the victim rents her house to the suspect.

The kidnapped woman resides a couple of streets away from her home at her partner’s home.

“As she (the victim) went to her own house to collect money for rent from her tenant, the boyfriend noticed she took a long time,” said Sekele.

“He went to the house, and when he arrived, the tenant said to the boyfriend, ‘yes, she was here, she collected money and left’.”

Police were called and a lookout for the BMW was given.

The woman’s car was found with a smashed window.

Police heard a noise and found the woman in the boot.

She was rushed to the Life the Glynnwood Hospital and was admitted to the ICU.

Sekele said the victim sustained injuries, although she could not specify the nature of the injuries.

The spokesperson said police and a local security company conducted surveillance at the tenant’s address following the incident.

When police confronted the woman this morning (April 11), they discovered the victim’s handbag in her possession, according to Sekele.

Police are investigating the possibility that the arrestee acted with three men in perpetrating the crime, after the victim told police she was hijacked by three men.

A case of hijacking and kidnapping has been opened at the Benoni Police Station.

The suspected is being detained at the Benoni Police Station and is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court on April 13.

Police are still investigating the case.
