Two suspects arrested on drug related charges

The operations, which were conducted jointly with the Benoni Community Policing Forum, targeted areas in the Benoni CBD, from 3am till 7am.

“Police swept areas which are being used as shelters by homeless people, after receiving information that suspects are harbouring there,” said Const Zunickha Essakjee, Benoni SAPS communication officer.

During the operation, police inspected the area under the bridge along Tom Jones Street.

They also searched areas around the Benoni Plaza and Western Extension.

“These kind of operations will be ongoing, to help bring down the crime rate in Benoni,” said Essakjee.

He added that the police are appealing to the community to assist them by reporting any suspicious or illegal activities in the area.
