Man rapes woman after offering to read out of bible

A man was arrested for rape after he allegedly lured a group of girls to his Tamboville shack and raped one of them.

The 24-year-old suspect approached the group of girls at a park on Makela Street, Wattville, on July 8, at around 10.30am.

“It is alleged that the suspect approached a group of young girls and asked them to go with him to his shack so that he could read out of the bible to them,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson WO Ramothakhi Maqabe.

The girls agreed and went to the man’s shack.

“Upon their arrival, the suspect told the other girls to go home and forced the victim inside the shack and raped her repeatedly.”

The 18-year-old victim was later released.

She returned home and later went to report the matter at the Actonville Police Station with her parents.

At around 10.30pm, on the same day, the man was arrested.

He is charged with rape and is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.
