Vehicle containing cigarettes hijacked at Lakefield Square

A delivery vehicle containing cigarettes was hijacked at Lakefield Square, this morning (August 5).

According to Const Zunicka Essakjee, spokesperson for the Benoni SAPS, three men, travelling in a VW Transporter van, were delivering cigarettes at Pick n Pay, at Lakefield Square, when they were approached by three men driving a Bantam Bakkie.

Two of the armed men, in the Bantam, pretended to also be making a delivery and approached the delivery men, then demanded the keys to their transporter vehicle.

The men then drove off in the transporter – with one of the delivery men.

The vehicle was later recovered on a Klein Road near the N12 highway, where the men offloaded the cigarettes and abandoned the delivery vehicle, and one of the delivery men, and fled the scene.

No injuries were reported and a hijacking case was opened at the Benoni SAPS.
