Pregnant woman airlifted after collision on Great North

An eight-month pregnant woman was airlifted to hospital following a collision between two vehicles at the intersection of Great North and Elgin roads, towards Kempton Park, this morning (August 13).

The woman is in a critical condition after she was found trapped on the passenger seat of the vehicle.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the ER24 helicopter was called to transport the critically injured patient to a private hospital for urgent treatment.

“”ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, responded through the heavy morning traffic and on arrival they found one vehicle lying on the side of the road, while the second car was in the middle of the intersection,” said Meiring.

“The provincial services used the Jaws-of-Life equipment to help free the woman from the wrecked vehicle.

“Two other patients found on scene with minor injuries were treated and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further treatment.”

The cause of the collision is not yet known, further investigations are being conducted.
