Four arrested for kidnapping

Police are investigating the possibility that a 27-year-old man arranged to be kidnapped in order to extort money from his mother.

Benoni SAPS Cluster Priority Task Team leader, Capt Alie van den Berg, said the victim’s mother opened a kidnapping case at the Daveyton Police Station after her son’s disappearance yesterday (September 8).

“The suspects phoned the parent and demanded R12 000 to release the victim,” said Van den Berg.

The suspects told the mother they would collect the money from her home in Daveyton at 5pm.

Police, along with the EMPD, staked out the property, waiting for the men to collect the money.

One their arrival, the four suspects were arrested.

They will be charged with kidnapping and are expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The man was not harmed.
