UPDATE: Guards shot dead while escorting tobacco vehicle
Two security guards were shot dead during an attempted robbery on Gumbi Street, Putfontein on Friday, November 27.

The incident occurred at 10.30am.
According to Benoni SAPS cluster spokesperson, Sgt Constance Moalusi, the two guards were escorting a British American Tobacco (Bat) vehicle to make a delivery at Two Brothers tuck shop, in Putfontein.
“The two guards made the delivery, when they were approached by two men, who fired shots into the vehicle,” added Moalusi.
“One guard was shot while inside the vehicle and the other outside the vehicle.”
Two men fled the scene with a rifle belonging to one of the security guards.
No one has been arrested.
A case of murder was opened at the Putfontein Police Station.
Police are investigating.
