Local DJ intent on inspiring the youth

Daveyton’s upcoming DJ, Daniel Tshepo Skhosana, known as “DJ Dee”, wants to inspire young people to believe in their dreams and always strive to achieve them, against all odds.

On January 15, he released his debut album, titled “Wonders of my soul”, under his record label, Perfect Harvest Media.

The album has 11 tracks and is available for download on ekasimp3.

Skhosana was raised in Etwatwa by a single mother, Johanna Skhosana.

After completing his matric, Skhosana wanted to study to be an electrician, until his mother got very ill.

“The plan had to change; I couldn’t study further as the money that was saved for my studies had to go into my mother’s hospital bills,” he explained.

“I had to start looking for work and, lucky enough, I got a job at J-Sounds Production, in Pretoria.”

Skhosana started off as a general worker and worked his way up to a being a self-taught sound engineer and producer.

That’s when he developed a love for music.

“I saw how easy it was to make music and started teaching myself how to DJ and produce music,” he said.

Skhosana started deejaying at local parties, in clubs and at street bashes.

He has shared the stage with Black Coffee, DJ Shimza, Infinite Boys and DJ Sbu.

Last year, Skhosana and his friend James Thomo started a recording company called Perfect Harvest Media, in Daveyton.

The company focuses on house, hip hop and kwaito music.

He said they opened the recording label to groom young talent from the township.

“There is a lot of talent in the ‘hood and the youth lacks knowledge on how to get into the music industry,” said Skhosana.

“Some of them have dreams, but when challenges arise they decide to quit.

“In life there are things that we want, but they don’t always come true; that doesn’t mean we must give up.

“Hence, we saw the opportunity to create this platform for them, to help them dream beyond their situation.”

When asked where he sees himself in five years, he said: “I want to be recognised in the whole of South Africa and get gigs across the continent.”
