Benonian for president?
Radio personality and model, Lesego Maphanga, may be well known countrywide but he will always stay true to his roots.
In an interview with the City Times, Maphanga explained his love for Benoni, his dreams for the future and his achievements through the years.
But we started with his roots about what makes him a true Benonian.
Benoni City Times (BCT): What about Benoni stands out for you?
Lesego Maphanga (LM): I matriculated from Benoni High School in 2008.
The most beautiful and significant differentiator of Benoni is the people.
This is what gives Benoni a sense of family and togetherness.
Some of the best personalities and characters I’ve ever known are from Benoni.
It is one of the easiest places on earth to make friends and from everyone you come into contact with, there is something new and wonderful to learn.
BCT: Okay, we understand your love for Benoni now, but tell us about your achievements since.
LM: Corporate:
Industrial and systems engineer, youth portfolio analyst at Standard Bank and a keynote speaker.
Pageants:
Mr Gauteng 2013/2014 and Mr South Africa 2013/2014 finalist.
Radio:
I co-host Gentlemen By Choice on Cliff Central every Thursday, where I interview influential personalities in both the media and corporate spaces.
I host two radio shows on Cliff Central: Unplugged & InCharge, and Take Charge.
Television:
Host of Tshwane TV fashion segment and lead role in e.tv Ekasi stories.
Model:
BOSS Model, campaigns, Dark and Lovely and SKYY Vodka.
I am currently one of the youngest managers at Standard Bank.
BCT: That is quite a number of achievements for a 25-year-old, so what are your future goals?
I have a target to be President of the Republic by 2035.
I know it’s a very ambitious goal but that’s what would make the journey all the more exciting.
As I have multiple careers (corporate, radio personality and modelling), my future ambitions are to be at the forefront of all of them.
The long-term strategy is to venture into politics.
BCT: We know about your past, present and future goals and achievements, but tell us about yourself.
LM: I enjoy playing indoor soccer.
I work out a lot because this gives me an outlet to work off the stresses of modern-day life and to keep fit and mentally sharp.
I usually play chess with colleagues.
I like suits, sneakers, sport SUVs, soccer, night outs with friends, music and motivational books.
I dislike avocados, man-bags, road running, camping, the Kardashians, and the dentist.
