Sifiso joins the Stach family
If you are familiar with the house on Fourth Avenue, Northmead, which has four mannequins seated on the front porch, there is a new member of the family.
“Some people think that it is evil to have these mannequins outside, but I like them,” said the owner, Erica Stach.
The latest addition to the family is Sifiso, who watches over the yard and road.
“I have had Sifiso for about a year and a half,” Stach said.
Stach placed her first mannequin, which her husband made and named Freddie, on her front porch in 2006.
After five years, she bought a new mannequin, named Daisy, to be Freddie’s “wife”.
“My father, Johan Bekker, named Daisy,” Stach said.
Shortly after this, Daisy’s “family”, Sussie and Choppies (who is a butcher), also decided to stay at the Northmead home.
“I am an artistic person,” Stach said.
“I don’t intend to offend anyone with my mannequins, I just like them.”
Stach moved into her home in 1984 but the idea of having mannequins sitting on her porch sparked in 2006, after she saw a mannequin of a man’s head with a horse’s body in the yard of another house in Northmead.
“I liked the idea and that is when I decided to make Freddie,” she explained.
Stach changes her mannequins twice a season and near Christmas time.
“My mannequins are just for personal artistic enjoyment,” she concluded.
