Business association launched in Western Extension

“Developing a better working relationship among business owners and creating a more harmonious understanding between business and residents” is how the president of the Western Extension Business Association (WEBA), Martin Anthony, describes the newly founded business association.

WEBA officially began three month ago, but the idea for the business association was birthed five years ago.

“About three months ago Clr Mary Goby and I were having coffee,” Anthony said.

“The matter emerged as part of the discussion; it was at that moment that the idea was put into motion.”

The association is new, but the members already have set objectives, including:

• Helping business become more sustainable by attracting new business into Western Extension.

• Providing a corporate interface between business owners and the municipality for efficient service delivery on demand.

• Providing a safe shopping or dining experience offered by the businesses to visitors in the area

• Upgrading the business area into an upmarket environment.

WEBA aims to become a representative council for businesses in Western Extension, to enhance the overall neatness and appearance of the business environment, assist potential businesses in rezoning of property for functioning legally and to offer advice and create awareness of by-laws among established and potential businesses.

“To register, businesses will be approached by WEBA representatives as part of a marketing drive by WEBA in the month of August,” Anthony said.

But businesses are welcome to contact the office for further information on 011 422 4562, send an email to info@westernextension.co.za, or contact Julie Venner (secretary) on 082 497 1997.

The executive board members, who were appointed on June 10, are: Martin Anthony (president), Clr Mary Goby (vice-president), Julie Venner (secretary), Donaven Mungal (treasurer) and Patrick Reynolds (public relations officer).

“There are no scheduled meeting for businesses as yet, but we will offer an orientation seminar for new businesses as they join, however, the WEBA board meets once a month,” Anthony concluded.
