The St Dunstan’s Cathedral (in Woburn Avenue) was previously known as the St Dunstan’s church.

The foundation stone of the first St Dunstan’s Church was laid by Lady Farrar, Sir George Farrar’s wife, Ella, on April 3, 1909.

The church opened for worship in August of the same year. During World War Two, it was decided to sell the site of the Cranbourne Avenue church and to build a new one from the proceeds.

The original church is a Sir Herbert Baker design.

The original sand stones were transferred to the present site in Woburn Avenue and incorporated into the arch above the high alter.

Original stones are also found in the “Lady Chapel”, where the original alter is seen and is a replica of the Cranbourne Avenue church, together with the original stained glass windows.

The original pulpit is seen in the main church. Information supplied by Glynis Cox Millett-Clay.
