Immunisation campaign postponed

The first round of the national vaccine campaign scheduled to commence on September 12 has been postponed for October 31 to November 18.

The City Times last week reported that the National Department of Health plans to conduct an integrated measles and polio campaign to protect the health of young children.

The department plans to achieve at least 95 per cent measles vaccine coverage in children aged six months to 59 months and a 90 per cent oral polio vaccine (OPV) coverage in children aged naught months to 59 months.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) will take part in the mass immunisation campaign that will be carried out at all primary healthcare facilities in the EMM.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the second immunisation round, which was scheduled for October 31 to November 11, will be communicated at a later stage.
