Calls to have noisy peacock removed
Some Farrarmere residents are hoping a “beautiful” peacock in the neighbourhood will be relocated, in order for them to have a peaceful night’s rest.
The culprit, a male bird, has been living between a few homes in Whitehouse and Derwent avenues.
“The peacock sits on a rooftop and screeches every night, from 6pm to the next morning,” said Sharon Davies.
She said the bird has been in the area for about five years, making intermittent screeches every year from August to January.
“I can’t stand it anymore; this screeching is causing a pain,” the Derwent Avenue resident said, asking for assistance to have the bird removed.
Diane Lavis said the bird also wakes her.
“I feel sorry for it (the bird),” she said.
“I hope it finds its happy place where it can strut its feathers and find a mate.”
Roy Wyman, who owns a business in the area, said his staff feed the feathered friend, which has no owner.
“I love it; it’s beautiful,” said Wyman.
“Everbody who comes in says, ‘look how beautiful it is’.”
He said the complainants are more than welcome to remove the animal from the area, but that the noise does not bug him.
Wildlife in Crisis volunteer Phillip Vivier said people who would like a peacock removed from their property may contact him on 084 597 3317.
