Lions get a visit from Iceland
The Benoni Lakes Lions Club was recently joined by the second (deputy) vice-president of Lions Clubs International, hailing from Iceland.
Gudrun Yngvadottir, who is the first woman elected to this position within the organisation, paid a visit to the Benoni club to view the work they did in Nest Park and other areas.
A tornado hit Nest Park, Bapsfontein in July last year, after which several individuals, businesses and organisations, including the Benoni, Benoni Van Rhyn and Benoni Lakes Lions clubs, endeavoured to help rebuild the homes destroyed in the storm.
The Benoni Lakes Lions Club also received over R143 000 from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, as an emergency grant to help the community.
“They made it beautiful, I’m impressed with the project, which took courage and strength to execute,” Yngvadottir said.
“This is a strong district, I’m glad to see the projects they’ve undertaken.”
Bernd Gerhard, district governor for Lions District 410B, also attended the meeting, which was held at On Sixth It’s all about Taste, in Northmead.
