Hyacinth will soon be removed

Local fishermen Wesley Fourie (left) and Victor Swanepoel (of Northmead) are not too concerned about the growth of water lilies and hyacinth in Homestead Dam, although they agreed it should be kept under control.

Clr Malanie Haggard (Ward 28), said the dredger is currently in Brakpan to remove growth at a Brakpan dam.

She said the machine should return to Benoni in six weeks’ time.

Haggard said she is waiting for the park’s department to provide skips at the dam, which will kick-start a community effort to assist council with removing the pesky plants.

She urged the community to contact her if they would like to get involved in the clean-up.

The councillor can be contacted on 074 543 3992 or email at malanie.haggard@ekurhuleni.gov.za
