No plans to start Mega Mall project yet

The Benoni Mega Mall project is still on ice, but will certainly go forward, according to the developer.

Mandela Mokoena, a representative of the developer, Mont Blanc Projects and Properties (Pty) Ltd, said the project will definitely go ahead.

“There is no time frame for the project as yet, everything is tentative,” said Mokoena.

The mall was planned to be built on more than 36ha of land, on the corner of Glen Gory and Elm roads, in Vlakfontein.

The development is set to create 24 000 jobs, direct and indirect.

The metro did not comment at the time of going to print, but in previous comment, metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe said: “It’s difficult to motivate a developer to invest money in infrastructure if the retail market is not ready for a new mall, given a weakening economy.”
