Themba aspires to help others

Daveyton resident Themba Mnguni (23), who is a qualified lawyer and a CEO of a company, wants to help others make their dreams come true.

BCT: Tell us about Theluba Events.

TM: I am a majority shareholder and CEO of Theluba Events (trading as TM Projects), which was established in July 2015.

The events company hires décor-related equipment including, but not limited to, Tiffany chairs, glass tables, stretch tents, café and cocktail chairs.

We do weddings, parties, graduations, corporate gigs and any other function which requires our services.

The company is situated in Daveyton.

BCT: You are a qualified lawyer, and studying further – tell us about that.

TM: I did LLB for four years at the University of the Witwatersrand and I did it in record time.

I was funded by Peermont Education Trust (Emperors Palace).

I graduated in 2015 and am doing advanced company law at Wits.

BCT: What inspired you to become a lawyer?

TM: I wanted to challenge myself, as it is deemed to be a cut-throat industry.

BCT: Has growing up in Benoni influenced who you are today?

TM: Benoni has taught me to take responsibility and to be a true hustler.

I say this because, since WJ Mpengesi Primary School and Lesiba Secondary School, I have been selling sweets, snacks and popcorn.

At varsity I sold colognes and denim wear.

If I grew up elsewhere I would not have been the person I am.

BCT: While studying, do you do anything else, professionally?

TM: I am group legal counsel at Mpact (the largest recycling company in Southern Africa).

BCT: Tell us about yourself.

TM: I grew up as an active person. I was raised by my grandmother, Phephi Mnguni, who instilled the ethic of hard work in me.

Both my parents died. I have two siblings: Katlego Mnguni and Sibusiso Kotlolo.

I have always been involved in business, as I used to go from house to house selling cleaning products and so on.

BCT: What are your goals?

TM: To achieve my MBA by the age of 26 and be a CEO of a company with revenue of more than R5 billion per annum.

I also want to publish a book to motivate people – as I believe I have a story which can motivate.

The deepest passion I have is to give people hope, as I have seen smart and talented individuals losing hope and being chained by drugs.
