Fairleads Retirement Village, a Methodist Home facility, extended its compassion to children on July 17 as its contribution to 67 Minutes for Mandela Day.

A team visited Benoni Child Welfare to deliver nourishing, warm soup, bread and party packs to the children of Colin House.

Resident liaison officer for Fairleads, Lindi Sereme, said the initiative extended beyond a nutritious meal and a show of care for the children’s wellbeing.

“It was a way for Fairleads to demonstrate its commitment to community upliftment, reflecting the belief that it takes a village to raise a child.

“For us, it was also the chance to highlight the importance of collective responsibility in supporting vulnerable children.

“This simple but meaningful act brought comfort and nourishment to the children while strengthening the community’s support for child welfare work.

“We would like to work with child welfare again in the future.”

Child welfare manager Vanessa Carelse said the visit was a blessing.

“It is great to see that everyone – young and old – can work together to improve our community.”
