Capt Nomsa Sekele, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said the incident happened just off Divot Street, at about 1.20pm.
The officer reportedly responded to an incident in which three people were robbing a Wordsworth High School learner.
Sekele said a murder case will be opened.
The EMPD did not have comment at the time of publishing.
