The arrest was made on the corner of Tom Jones Street and Princes Avenue, at about 9.35am.
According to Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele, police received a tip-off about a suspicious-looking white BMW being driven aimlessly around the CBD.
“Whilst they were patrolling the area, they saw a silver Mercedes-Benz Kompressor which also looked suspicious,” said Sekele.
“Police stopped the vehicle, and upon further investigation, the vehicle came out positively as having been stolen during a house robbery in Kinross (Mpumalanga) in May 2014.”
The man was arrested and detained at the Benoni SAPS.
He will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
The arrest was made by Capt Imber Groesbeek (Benoni Crime Prevention) and WO Kallie Venter (Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Trio Task Team).
The Benoni SAPS station commander, Brig Johan Jacobs, commended both officers for their good work and encouraged other members to follow their example.
