EFF motion delays Ekurhuleni budget

An urgent motion from the EFF before the start of the 2017/18 budget for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) was delayed by more than an hour and a half.

The EFF raised concerns about the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) public participation.

The meeting is being held in Vosloorus.

EFF members said fewer than 6 000 people were consulted during the metro’s IDP, despite there being over three million residents in the City.

EMM executive mayor Mzwandile Masina said the metro has complied with legislation and that every ward had an opportunity to give views for the IDP.

Masina said the EFF’s request for a percentage of the number of people covered is not required by legislation.
