Five things that cost less than 1GB of data in South Africa
The cost of data is quiet expensive in South Africa compared to other third world nations as well as some first world nations. In a world where keeping up-to date with trending news is at the palm of one’s hand, data has become vital.
Here are some things that cost less than 1GB of data in South Africa:
- New born nappies cost around R95 for a pack of 42, while the average cost of a gigabyte costs around R150. A pack of 42 nappies could last at least a week and a gigabyte of data will last four or five days depending if you are using it on an application like Instagram or to update other applications on your device.
- 10kg bag of rice costs around R110. That’s R40 less than a gigabyte of data. In most cases, the amount of data will be used on a device which is not even the equivalent weight of a 10kg bag of rice.
- 6×1 litres of milk generally costs around R75. That’s almost 50 per cent less than the cost of a gigabyte of data.
- Depending on where you purchase your chicken, a 5kg pack of chicken normally costs around R140, which is R10 less than a gigabyte of data.
- The taxi fare for three people going from Springs to Johannesburg – which is almost 100km to and from – costs less than one gigabyte of data.
Unfortunately we are faced with tough decisions on how to spend our hard earned money and sometimes we have to sacrifice certain things in order to afford data. Share your opinions and comment below on some of the things you wouldn’t sacrifice data for.
