On January 26, last year, Gilchrist shot and killed a man in Barcelona, Etwatwa.
Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson, Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe, said Gilchrist went searching for his girlfriend who ended the relationship with him.
“When he got to the girlfriends house, the girlfriend’s father opened the door and Gilchrist shot him in the upper body,” said Maqabe.
He then fled the scene.
Gilchrist was arrested at a tavern in Boksburg on January 28, last year.
He was sentenced to 20 years for murder and five years for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
He is serving his sentence at Modderbee Prison.
