Farrarmere resident dreams of becoming top legal mind
Sasha-Leigh Rosa Gonçalves (21), aims to become one of the best 'legal eagles' in South Africa.
BCT: You live in Farrarmere but where did you live before?
SG: My family and I lived in Limpopo for six years, enjoying 43 hectares of farm life for a certain period.
We realised that farm life, and all it entails, simply did not fall in line with our lifestyle.
Moving to Benoni was a natural move because other family members were based in the town.
BCT: You are studying law, but work in the media industry. Tell us about that.
SG: The show, Youth Leadership Platform (YLP), is broadcast on CliffCentral.com every Monday from 2pm to 3pm and aims to provide a platform where young people and students can speak about issues and topics that matter to them. This platform also showcases local well-known and upcoming talent that deserves recognition.
I produce the show and sometimes co-host it. Multiple organisations advocating the importance of transforming our society, as well as celebrities such as J’Something and Maps Maponyane, have featured on YLP.
We have interviewed the ambassador to Hungary, Natalie du Toit, and many more people who have such a wealth of knowledge and passion for what they do.
The Youth Leadership Platform is a platform young people can use to express their feelings openly and uninhibitedly on certain topics affecting them and our society at large.
BCT: What hobbies do you have?
SG: I am a minimalistic person – so, hobbies do not really exist for me, but I have a love for languages and am learning two (Arabic and Hindi) in my spare time.
If I were to choose more hobbies, I would include drawing, painting and writing.
I also have a great interest in photography. All these interests stem from when I was much younger.
BCT: What are your plans?
SG: I try my best to set my plans in stone – beyond that point, I leave the decision to God.
I have a desire to become one of South Africa’s best legal minds by being innovative in my thinking, strategy and approach to the law.
BCT: What is your advice to youngsters?
SG: The journey will never be easy for anyone. It wasn’t for me, but the rewards of chasing after what you want to do will be worth it. Do not make excuses – make a decision to do it and then simply do it.
