Respected Rynsoord resident dies

Rynsoord resident Jagath Singh (74) died on June 27 and his funeral service took place in Edenvale.

Jagath, the eldest son of Jeeth and Devekie Singh, was also the sibling of Premilla Vallab, Sabita Bhana, Rajendra “Jampie” Singh, Radha Adjooda, Lalita Ragunanan and the late Nehaal “Nalie” Singh.

He is the father of Ushana Chotoki, Neeraj Singh, Neermal Singh, Rhoma Singh Patel and Rahul Singh, and grandfather to Sohnam, Suhina and Rohan Chotoki (15), Shubhaan (16), Saesha (11), Simran and Sameer Singh (16) and Sahir (6) and Mahir Patel (4).

Jagath also loved and welcomed his sons-and-daughters-in-law Niren Chotoki, Suvira Maharaj, Asha Bhana, Farhad Patel and Prenisha Nandlal to his family.

“Dad lived in Benoni all his life,” said Rhoma.

“He was born in Actonville and lived there for 36 years.”

He then moved to Rynsoord where he lived for another 38 years.

“Dad started working as a clerk at the then Actonville municipality in 1963 and, in 1978, worked himself up to become manager of the facilty and subsequently, manager of Actonville and Indian affairs.

“He was promoted to Benoni town in 1988 and retired in 1995 because of ill health,” said Rhoma.

“He gave 35 years’ service to the Benoni Town Council.”

Rhoma added that when she sums up Jagath’s life, she can say he lived up to his values and principles.

“In 1968 he married our mother, Bande Dave Singh of Lenasia,” Rhoma said.

“Mai, as he lovingly called her, was his friend and pillar of strength throughout his life and tended to him these past eight years when his health deteriorated.”

The late Jagath completed a diploma in bookkeeping and worked in Jeppe. Thereafter he aspired to work in government and only retired due to ill health.

“Our dad was indeed an industrious individual. I have fond memories of him sitting up late at night when I was a little girl, studying and working constantly to better himself,” Rhoma said.

“My siblings and I were always proud to say who our dad is when we were asked who our parents were,” she added.

“He lived by his motto: ‘Be good and do good.’

“Any person who crossed his path was taken back by his constant motivation to strive for success and excellence.

“We thank friends and family who have supported us.”
