Man sentenced for robbery

A 32-year-old man who was arrested for robbery with aggravating circumstances and house break-in with intent to commit robbery was sentenced in the Benoni Regional Court.

Siyabonga Marareni was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on October 2.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said that on July 10, Marareni forcefully entered the victim’s house and threatened her with a knife.

The 69-year-old woman was stabbed in her left arm.

She was later transported to Netcare Linmed Hospital.

Marareni was arrested shortly after the crime in Western Extension.

Sekele added that Marareni was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

He will serve his sentence at Modderbee Prison.
