Police reward excellence

It was glitz and glam at the annual Ekurhuleni Central Cluster 2017 Prestige Awards, as top police men and women were recognised for hard work and dedication.

The awards ceremony was held on October 13, at Carnival City.

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster consists of 11 police stations; Actonville, Benoni, Boksburg, Boksburg North, Brakpan, Crystal Park, Dalpark, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Putfontein and Reiger Park – all of which had representatives at the function.

Other high-ranking police officials from Gauteng, as well as members of the cluster’s various community policing forums, were also in attendance.

The MCs were Capt Pearl van Staad and Capt Lucia Govender from Brakpan SAPS.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster deputy commander Brig Thabo Mphuthi welcomed guests and fellow police officers.

Maj-Gen Poobalan Subbiah, Ekurhuleni Central Cluster commander, welcomed the acting provincial commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Maj-Gen Nomburuza Napo, on stage to deliver the keynote address.

“This is one of the clusters that has put Gauteng on the map in terms of good performance,” said Napo.

“Today, I got to rub shoulders with the people who keep the Gauteng flag flying high.”

“For me as the, acting commissioner, awards like these not only recognise individual excellence, but it is an example set by some of our clusters in the province.”

She said the award winners made the police proud.

“We can walk tall and say we are working for the SAPS in Gauteng,” she said.

“The success of the province depends on the commitment and dedication of members on the ground.”

“Our province is one of the best performing provinces in the country and that can be attributed to the members of this cluster who don’t sleep at night as they are chasing after criminals.”
