#KnowYourBenoni – Ashish wore prada
Lakefield resident, Ashish Gangapersad (33) prominently known for his role as Prada in SABC3's Isidingo made his dreams of becoming an actor a reality by becoming the change he wants to see.
BCT: What inspired you to join the film industry?
AG: I wanted to be an actor from a very young age.
Acting was not considered a viable career growing up in a small town.
My love for film stemmed from watching the likes of Indiana Jones and James Bond.

BCT: Tell us about your personal life?
AG: I was born in Newcastle KZN and moved to Johannesburg in 2009.
My wife Sydal Subrayen is an incredible person whose support knows no bounds.
She has been with me from the very beginning of my journey and continues to watch it unfold.
My family has been a cornerstone in helping me break into the industry.
BCT: Tell us about your career?
AG: I have been fortunate enough to work on both local and international content.
The role I’m known for most is Prada from Isidingo (which was my first break into the mainstream) and Arrod Sha from Scandal.
I have also acted in 7de Laan, Binnelanders, Sokhulu and Partners, Soap on a rope, Gold Diggers and feature films like From a house on Willow Street and The Siege of Jadotville on Netflix along with The Last post for BBC and Blood Drive for Syfy.
For the last three years I worked on producing a drama show called flawed which is inspired by the likes of Suits, The Good Wife, Boston Legal, The Practice and several others.
It’s been an incredibly tough journey so far but I intend to push forward and I hope to have the support of the country and unite everyone like a television drama has never done before.
Most recently I have completed a 13-part drama series called The Docket which is set to air next month (FEB) on SABC3.
BCT: What are your plans?
AG: Together with a childhood friend, Suren Chetty, we developed an augmented reality application that will launch in the next week or two called PIXZAR.
BCT: What are your hobbies?
AG: Writing, but the top of my list will always remain to be with friends and just hanging out.
I do try and keep fit so I convince myself that going to the gym is also a hobby.
I love cars and gaming as well so anything to do with that is a good time for me.
