Two of the 11 flats in Actonville will be tended to.
Proper refurbishments at Karachi Court and Delhi Court in Actonville are underway this week after a 23-year wait, according to Ward 29 Clr Haseena Ismail.

“For the past 23 years there has not been any constructive maintenance done at these flats,” Ismail said.
“Now maintenance will include plumbing for both the water and sewerage pipes for both flats. Structural damages of the building will be attended to.”
Ismail hopes refurbishment of all the flats in Actonville will be budgeted for in the June/July budget.
“I have prioritised the refurbishment of these flats by putting it on the Ward 29 IDP ‘needs list’ so that a budget can be allocated,” she said.
“We have 11 council flats in Actonville and all of them are in a bad state; we have major structural damages at these flats.”
Ismail said she requested the refurbishment of the flats because the community cannot afford another loss of life due to the structure of the flats.
On May 15, 2016, two men fell from the fifth floor in Karachi Court after leaning against the balcony which gave way. One of the two fell to his death.
“It is the responsibility of the municipality to provide appropriate living conditions to its tenants,” Ismail said.
“I am glad that at least the balustrades at Karachi Court were done in October 2016.”
Ismail said although the flats face major issues of water leaks inside the flats, it is a step in the right direction that the structural damages will be attended to.
“I am happy that residents are finally receiving the service they deserve and are entitled to,” she said.
